01 INTRODUCTION TO FIRST AID

Medical emergencies can occur any time and in any setting. Incidents such as falls, road accidents, and sudden illnesses like a heart attack or stroke can be life threatening if medical aid is not immediately available.

This module explains the basics of providing care, what you need to know before and after providing care and the precautions you should take while helping an injured person.

02 FIRST AID EMERGENCIES

Cardiac and respiratory emergencies can be life threatening if a bystander is unable to give immediate care.

This module explains how to recognize cardiac and respiratory emergencies in a casualty and the basics of providing care. We will also give you an overview of CPR, a technique that is used to resuscitate an unconscious person.

03 FIRST AID IN CONFLICT ZONES

This module will give you an understanding of your role as a First Aider in conflict zones and will guide your decision making and actions during armed conflicts and in other situations of violence.

We will specifically focus on how to provide care to someone suffering from bleeding, shock, gunshot wounds and crush injuries and how to administer life-saving and stabilizing measures that can prevent death.

04 CULTURAL AWARENESS

There are many aspects to consider under the heading of ‘cultural awareness’ and of being culturally sensitive. This module highlights the concept of culture and the importance of culture in all our lives.

We will look at cultural and individual needs and preferences and outline the need for cultural competence in cross-cultural care.

05 OPERATIONAL SECURITY - OPSEC

Protecting critical and sensitive information is essential to protecting the success of your organization, to your missions, and to protecting the lives of your colleagues.

This module will explain the importance of OPSEC and give you examples of risk reduction and protecting your information.

06 RADIO COMMUNICATIONS

The primary objective of radio networks is to provide all staff with a safety and security communications tool. In emergencies, it may become the only way to communicate or to seek assistance.

In this module we will look at how to use radios, and the specific language used to make radio communications effective.

07 DEFUSING ANGER & HOSTILITY

You may find yourself in situations where you need to attempt to defuse aggressive, angry people.

This module will teach you to recognize anger in others, and what you can do to de-escalate that anger.

08 SURVIVING CROWDS, MOBS & RIOTS

This module aims to increase your chance of surviving an emergency within a crowd or demonstration.

We will discuss various types of crowds, how different influences can transform a crowd into a mob and offer you some advice on how to survive.

09 MINES & UXOS

The aim of this module is to provide general landmine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) awareness and safety information to individuals working in the vicinity of areas affected by these types of weapons, and to help them establish proper safety procedures, avoid contact with mines and UXO, take appropriate action in emergency situations involving mine/UXO incidents and take appropriate action in case of accidental entry into a minefield.

10 WEAPONS AWARENESS

How you react when shooting occurs will be influenced by your level of awareness at the time, how close you are to the shooting, and what cover is available.

This module aims to increase your awareness of weapons. You will be provided with advice on how to stay as safe as possible around various types of weapons including Small Arms, Artillery, Mortars, Rockets and Grenades.

11 DRIVING IN HIGH-RISK ENVIRONMENTS

In this module we will discuss vehicle security in High Risk Environments and the various safety strategies required when driving in unfamiliar countries.

We will look at some specific situations like managing checkpoints, carjacking’s and ambushes.

12 SURVIVING AN ACTIVE SHOOTER

This module aims to improve your chances of surviving an act of extreme violence like an Active Shooter incident.

We will explore what you should consider when faced with an Active Shooter and provide you with valuable information on your 3 survival responses: Run, Hide or Fight.

13 HOSTAGE SURVIVAL

First of all, the chances of you being kidnapped or taken hostage are quite small. If it does happen, your chances of survival are very high. Although each hostage case is different, they typically follow the same phases; surveillance, capture, holding, release, and a post release phase.

This module aims to increase your survival chances if taken hostage.
